  Campus Councils

  The Neighborhood Councils are great, but they don't meet regularly enough and don't have enough dedicated brain power to be as effective as they need to be in order to reign in overextended government. Universities are a great resource that have not been given a real voice in government.   The Neighborhood Councils are great, but they don't meet regularly enough and don't have enough dedicated brain power to be as effective as they need to be in order to reign in overextended government.

  Universities are a great resource that have not been given a real voice in government.

  A little brother Campus Council system would make the Neighborhood Councils more effective by giving the NCs more brain power and man hours to delegate towards issues that require research and time.

  Universities like California State University Northridge, Pierce College, UCLA, Los Angeles Community College, USC, etc. have hundreds if not thousands of students that would plug into this system. This would benefit society as a whole.

  The Campus Councils would be in a position to empower citizens to speak truth to power by providing factual data in an intelligible way to Neighborhood Councils, Community Organizations, and The Public. This information would allow US to tear down the straw-man arguments that the city puts forward to marginalize the people's intelligence.

  sidewalks badly need repair

  Our sidewalks haven't been repaired for years. They have deteriorated to the point of being very dangerous.

  Unprecedented Budget Transparency

  A real-time-read-only-file for every single account that our funds are kept in. We don't know where our money is. Identify where it is and keep track of it online in Real Time. If someone needs to take money out of an account, a red flag comes up letting us know who is trying to take funds out. They must file a report letting the people know what that money is going to be used for. A history and timeline is created ...more »

  A real-time-read-only-file for every single account that our funds are kept in.

  We don't know where our money is.

  Identify where it is and keep track of it online in Real Time.

  If someone needs to take money out of an account, a red flag comes up letting us know who is trying to take funds out. They must file a report letting the people know what that money is going to be used for. A history and timeline is created and saved, not only for specific accounts and projects, but individuals as well.

  Only certain people have access to city funds, so we as a citizenry, should become familiar with the people distributing our tax dollars.

  This would create more transparency and accountability than anytime in the history of modern government.

  Reduce salaries off all officeholders

  Los Angeles City council members are the highest paid council members in the U.S. With our economy in the tank and people struggling to keep their jobs and pay their bills, and education and health service budgets being slashed, we need to look at the top fat cats--everyone needs to make sacrifices.   city should pay for sidewalk repair

  It is not fair that the homeowner be held responsible to foot the bill for sidewalk repair.

  After paying the mortgage and putting food on the family table very little is left to cover other core obligations.

  Most homeowners lack extra money to pay for their sidewalks. The same goes for pot holes and trimming city trees.

  Backyard Citrus

  My husband is a food-banker and well-acquainted with the food pantries in the SFV. We are also very aware of the extent to which backyard citrus goes unharvested. We'd like to see community volunteers pick the fruit (with owners' permission) and give it to local food programs so that kids and families can have the benefit of good fruit in their diets.

  "No Cost" Crosswalks and Bike lanes

  The Bureau of Street Services (BOSS) has a 15 month in advance schedule of streets to be repaved in Los Angeles. When these streets are re-paved, the LADOT goes in and re-stripes the street. This is an opportunity to study the streets and work to make it MORE people friendly by adding crosswalks, calming speeders via road diets and creating safe accommodations for non-motorized modes of travel such as bicycles. Timing ...more »

  The key, is to engage the neighborhood surrounding the streets. Compelling BOSS to make the re-pavement schedule public many months in advance give Neighborhood Councils and neighbors to get together and discuss how they want their streets to be laid out.
